Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante

Even though the Murcielago ended production earlier this month and its successor won't begin production for a while, Lamborghini has not been spending its time idly, and will prove that by introducing the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. Billed as "less weight, more fascination," the Spyder Performante is meant to take the 'regular' Gallardo Spyder to new highs of performance with new lows of weight.

Essentially a superleggera version of the Gallardo Spyder, a total of 143 pounds have been shed from the standard convertible through the use of carbon fiber and carbon composite parts both outside and in. The convertible cover is made from carbon fiber, as is the rear spoiler, diffuser and some underbody components. Inside, the transmission tunnel cover, door panels and seat shells are CF units.

The front end has also been tweaked for looks and aerodynamic purposes, with improved cooling and more downforce on the front axle being two of the results, and better rear aero comes courtesy of a redesigned diffuser. The blast-off time from 0-to-62 mph has been dropped to 3.9 seconds, and terminal velocity comes in at 201 mph. Want more? It puts out less CO2 emissions, which means better gas mileage.

German sportscar tuner, JB Car Design has upped the ante on the Lamborghini Murciélago with its new Bat LP 640 performance and styling package that will cost buyers a little over €88,000 [for the full tune] or about the same as a brand new 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera in Germany.

The firm's engineers first turn their tuning attention to the Italian supercar's aerodynamics and looks. Limited to just 75 pieces worldwide, the new appearance package is inspired by the Reventon and consists of a contoured front bumper with additional side air intakes, a carbon fiber front lip spoiler, carbon fiber headlight covers, side skirts, rear bumper with side air outlets and carbon rear diffuser.

The company also adds a two-piece carbon fiber rear wing, LED lights and three-piece 20" alloy wheels.

JB Car Design also gives the Murciélago's interior a makeover with a combination of leather and Alcantara surfaces, carbon fiber trim, a new steering wheel and an available high-end sound system with additional subwoofer and amplifier.

Performance modifications include a two stage engine kit with 710HP or 750HP along with a custom exhaust system and sport catalysts.

The Lamborghini concept that’s been naughtily teased over the past month has been unveiled! It’s called the Sesto Elemento and it looks gorgeously outrageous, as spectacular as the name. Sesto Elemento is Italian for Sixth Element, and the sixth element in the periodic table is carbon. Get it?

Boasting an extremely lightweight construction thanks to advanced carbonfibre technology, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has an overall curb weight of just 999 kg including its V10 engine and permanent all-wheel drive. That’s very little weight for 570 hp to pull (sensational power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kg per hp) and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is done in only 2.5 seconds!

“Systematic lightweight engineering is crucial for future super sports cars: for the most dynamic performance, as well as for low emissions. We will apply this technological advantage right across our model range. Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

Lamborghini has decided to offer a limited edition model for the Chinese market following the latest trend displayed by other makes such as Ferrari. It's called the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition (or the LP 670-4 SV CLE), and "not more than ten" will be built.

Lamborghini explains that the car "is designed and manufactured exclusively for China's most discriminating super sports car enthusiasts." I guess that's Lamborghini-speak for nouveau riche with "colorful" tastes.

The orange stripe is meant to represent an erupting volcano over what I'm guessing is the gray of a volcano.

Inside, owners get their name and serial number on a plaque, while the rest of the car... well, that's pure, rocket-ship LP 670-4 SV.

The engine is Lamborghini's soon-to-be-retired (now) 6.5 liter V12, which means it puts out 670 horsepower to the SV's 100-kilo-lighter body and clips 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. It tops out at 342 km/h (213 mph), unless buyers go with the "Aeropack Wing", which cuts top speed down to a mere 337 km/h (209 mph).

What this car lacks in a fancy "special edition" name and all that unnecessary "special edition" equipment, it more than makes up for with...nothing. It's a "special edition" for the sake of being a special edition and to suck up to the growing Chinese market.

Except that it's a Lamborghini, so it's still kinda cool.

Penned by Andrei Avarvarii, the Lamborghini Minotauro Design Concept use four electric motors and split the power 30%/70% front to rear. A Li-Tec flat-cell battery out back and a KERS system in the front would be providing the power. According to the press release, the absence of a big V12 engine in the rear creates enough room for a third passenger in a central position." That's right, seating for three.

But the coolest design idea of all? Look no further than those triangular intakes/exhausts. "[They] serve for battery cooling and visually replace the traditional exhausts...[and] also act like the tubes of a subwoofer, channeling the sound of the electric motors, placed behind them."
